UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS IN

WOMEN’S STUDIES

Why Women’s Studies

A nuanced and informed understanding of gender is essential in current times. Knowledge of how gender and power relations shape home, work, and public life is increasingly integral to professional and personal success. Such knowledge is essential to living, working, and thriving in a multicultural environment.

In the Women’s Studies program at Hofstra University, students explore the social, cultural, political, scientific, artistic and intellectual contributions of women. Courses will equip you with the interdisciplinary perspectives necessary to understand how gender has been viewed across cultural and historical contexts. The program also fosters respect for diverse identities and backgrounds, helping you develop the insight and cultural fluency essential for meaningful work in any career path.
