Types of Accommodations

Community & Suite Style
Hofstra University's residence halls can accommodate over 4,500 guests in several types of residential settings ranging from suite style with semi-private bath to a traditional dormitory style set-up. All our rooms are air-conditioned! All rooms include a bed, dresser, wardrobe closet, desk, chair, and wastebasket for each guest. Free campus-wide wireless internet access is available.

During the summer, Hofstra University opens its residence halls to current Hofstra students, international students, external groups, sports camps, and many others seeking a safe, convenient, and affordable place to stay while on Long Island.

Group Stays

Each summer, Hofstra makes overnight accommodations available to guests from the United States and around the world. Group conference summer housing is available for groups and organizations with 10 or more program participants seeking housing for a minimum of one night to a maximum of eight weeks. Some restrictions apply.

Depending on length of stay and group size, our rates are negotiable.

Groups of 10 or more traveling with minors (under 18 years of age) for over 72 hours during summer months for an overnight program without parents are classified as summer camps. New York state law requires these types of groups to obtain a permit. For permit information or exceptions, please contact our office for information on how to reach our local representative.

Hofstra Department Individual Stays

We offer individual guest stays for participants of Hofstra University sponsored summer programs. Guests must be at least 18 years of age or older.

If you have registered for a program and have confirmed that the department has reserved housing for your program, please use our Guest Accommodations form to submit your request. If your department has not reserved housing please have the program manager contact Conference Services at 516-463-5067. Email conferenceservices@hofstra.edu to request a Guest Accommodations form.

Summer Intern Housing

If your internship program has been approved by the university, you will need to complete the Hofstra University Summer Internship Housing License Application.

An agreement and invoice will be sent to you after application review. Email conferenceservices@hofstra.edu for the application.

*As a convenience, the university has linen packets available for $11.25 each. However, if staying an extended period of time you may prefer your own sheets/blankets.

Would you like to bring a group to Hofstra University this summer but need assistance with curriculum planning? Our Continuing Education office offers numerous academic and sports related programs.

Working in conjunction with our Continuing Education department group leaders can customize summer housing programs that work for their group. Our Continuing Education department can match your preferences to existing programs or tailor one for you.

Summer Housing FAQ

When do I begin planning a summer conference with your office?
We request at least nine months to one year lead time to begin reserving space and working through details with your organization.
What other services/facilities are available in your Residence Halls?
Common Lounge Areas
Each residence hall has a common lounge area with living room furnishings and television. The common area also has a kitchenette with a stovetop, sink, and microwave. All these items must stay in the common area the entire summer. They cannot be removed or placed in storage.

Laundry Facilities
Hofstra offers free laundry room access to its guests. Detergent is not provided.

Linen Service
We do not provide linen service unless previously contracted or requested at a fee of $11.25 per packet. Our rentable packet includes: A flat sheet, a fitted sheet, a blanket, a pillow, a pillowcase, and two towels.

Toiletries
We do not provide additional toiletries within our residential room. Please be prepared with items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, and shower shoes/bucket. If you happen to forget an item, our on-site bookstore is open during business hours.
What policies should we be aware of when bringing an overnight group to Hofstra?
Drug & Alcohol Policy
Possession and/or use of controlled substances and related paraphernalia is strictly prohibited on any part of the Hofstra campus. Hofstra University forbids the illegal use of drugs. Consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages by those under 21 years of age is prohibited. Consumption or possession of alcohol in community/public areas, such as parking lots, University grounds, building lounges, or hallways is also prohibited.

Fire Safety
Groups must comply with our existing fire safety policies and procedures. This includes using only electronic devices permitted by our campus and fully evacuating a building should fire alarm bells go off. Please note the use of cooking appliances (hot pots, hot plates, etc.) in the rooms is strictly prohibited.

Outside Guests
Only registered individuals are permitted within our residence halls. To properly maintain safety and security, we do not permit any guests of registered individuals to enter our residence halls.

Does Hofstra offer meal plans?
Hofstra's Dining Services does offer a variety of meal plans for conference groups. Meeting planners can choose from several pre-priced plans with specific menus or may opt to set up a plan with a set dollar amount based on the group's budget and preferences. Meal plans are not available on an individual basis; however, individuals are more than welcome to use any of the dining facilities on a cash basis.
Is there parking available on campus?
There is ample free parking on Hofstra's campus. Visitors do not need permits to park, but they require permits for disabled parking privileges.
Are the rooms air-conditioned?
All the residence halls on Hofstra University's campus are equipped with air-conditioning at no extra charge.
Are refrigerators, TVs, or VCRs available?
Groups may rent small refrigerators with a freezer and microwave from Hofstra. Our common lounge areas offer full-size television screens and may be used free of charge. Some televisions have a DVD connection readily available, please inquire with your planner about the specifics of your building.
Are there telephones in the residence hall rooms?
Phones are no longer offered in residence hall rooms. If you do not have a cell phone, our lobby residential security booth will have a telephone that can dial extensions on campus including Public Safety in case of an emergency.
May I cook my own meals in the residence halls?
Yes, guests may cook their own meals in the kitchen facilities provided in each residence hall. Kitchens include an oven with burners, microwaves, and a sink. The use of cooking appliances (hot pots, hot plates, etc.) in rooms is strictly prohibited.
How far in advance should conference dates be reserved?
For one day events, at least four weeks' notice is recommended. For larger groups and conferences, we suggest that contact be made with at least one year's advance notification.
Can I use my computer in the residence halls?
Yes. We offer free wireless access in all our residence halls. See EdTech for our acceptable use guidelines.
Is your summer overnight insurance requirement different than your meeting insurance requirements?
Yes, in addition to each occurrence being covered for $1,000,000, overnight programs are required to have an additional $3,000,000 umbrella policy. If you are bringing minors on to campus, we also have additional requirements, please speak to your conference services representative. On the insurance certificate, it must clearly state that Hofstra University must be the main certificate holder and is listed as the additional Insured. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Please note that all conference arrangements are subject to a duly signed agreement and final approval from Hofstra University. Events and conferences are not confirmed until both requirements have been attained. Please do not advertise your event until you have received official written final approval.
