Zarb School of Business

MBA CO-OP Program

Hofstra’s graduate business programs offer qualified students the opportunity to take part in a co-op experience that blends hands-on learning with real-world professional work. Students gain valuable experience in a full-time, paid role in their field of study for three to five months, while continuing to earn their degree. Both domestic and international students are eligible to participate.

Student Requirements
To be eligible for participation in the MBA Co-Op Program, students must:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6
  • Complete at least 18 semester hours in the MBA program

Co-Op Opportunities
The Zarb MBA Co-Op Program offers students personalized guidance and comprehensive career support:

Employment Requirements
All co-op positions must meet the following criteria:

  • Duration of 3 to 5 months
  • Recommended minimum compensation of $20 per hour
  • A clearly defined job description outlining roles, responsibilities, and learning objectives
  • Positions may not be current permanent roles held by the student
  • Positions may not be newly created permanent roles that begin during the co-op semester

Exception:
Structured training or rotational programs that may lead to permanent employment may be considered on a case-by-case basis. In these instances, the training or rotational program itself is considered the co-op experience—not the permanent position.

Academic Credit for the Co-Op
Students approved for academic credit must meet the following requirements:

  • Register for MBA 360: MBA Co-Op Capstone Course
  • Be employed by an approved Co-Op Corporate Partner
  • Complete a minimum of 480 work hours during the semester

About the Program

The Goal of the Co-Op Pogram:
To provide graduate students with an integrated educational and professional work experience in their field of study, allowing them to expand their experience and responsibility commensurate with their abilities as they progress through the program.

Corporate participation in the co-op program provides:

  • A resource of energetic and talented students to supplement full-time staff
  • A process to evaluate and mentor future permanent employees
  • A network of new, ambitious talent

Partner testimonial:
"The Hofstra MBA students have been incredible to work with; they come with a can-do attitude and are very eager to learn. With that, the rest comes easy. While training is provided, we find it's best to fully immerse the students. As such, the students join all internal meetings as well as client meetings. We feel it's important they see projects full circle, so the client exposure and interaction is key for that experience." – Lara Bass, EGC Group
