Launched in 2023, the Core Skills Lab utilizes VR technology to help students enhance their core skills, such as:

Using simulated environments, students can engage in mock job interviews, presentations, salary negotiations, and other professional scenarios all while being evaluated on speech, vocabulary, tone, and posture.

Consumer behavior is at the heart of all major business decisions. Within the BRB Lab, students conduct sophisticated, multidisciplinary research with the help of:

• 22 workstations for conducting behavior research studies
• An observation room with one-way windows to view activities in two labs
• Interview rooms for one-on-one meetings, small focus groups, or discussions 
• Advanced technology that accurately analyzes eye movements, facial expressions, voice and text, and biometric responses

BRB enables researchers to evaluate current marketing strategies and track consumer behavior. The lab is regularly outsourced to companies seeking to conduct behavioral research and is often visited by other academic institutions that are seeking to build labs of their own.

As one of the largest academic trading rooms in the nation, students receive hands-on experience using 34 Bloomberg Professional terminals as they delve into the global securities market. During classes, students are trained and certified in the same technology used by leading financial institutions to:

• Analyze financial and economic data
• Apply analytical methods
• Develop financial models
• Conduct interactive trading simulations

Students gain knowledge of investments, risk management, and corporate and quantitative finance, while receiving dynamic trading experience through two student-run investment funds: (Berliner Brodlieb Family Student Managed Investment Fund and the Student Managed Sustainability Fund).

The Zarb School of Business partnered with Hofstra’s Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science in the development of a $1.35 million facility dedicated to cybersecurity, including:

• Cutting-edge software that realistically simulates cyberattack scenarios
• 36 computers, a separate server room, and status boards
• Collaborative research projects with industry, government, other academic institutions

As cybercrimes and cyberattacks become more frequent and sophisticated, the Zarb School of Business continues to educate its students to meet the growing demand for a cybersecurity workforce in all industries.

The ideaHUb is a virtual and in-person New York state-certified business incubator and collaborative workspace where students and local small businesses can bring their visions to life. With a focus on entrepreneurship, the ideaHUb offers:

• A high-tech makerspace for developing product prototypes
• Coaching and mentorship programs and workshops
• Connections to student interns and academic programs

Within its makerspace, the ideaHUb comes with professional-grade equipment, such as:

• Ultimakers
• 3D Scanners
• A Full Spectrum Laser cutter
• A photo booth
• A vinyl cutter 
• A fashion area

The Zarb Store is a student-run business made up of managers, faculty, associates, and interns who work collaboratively to gain hands-on experience while operating an on-campus store within the Zarb School of Business. During this time, students hone their skills in accounting, management, finance, marketing, social media, and other essential aspects of running a business.

Finance students have the opportunity to manage two separate investment funds:

Berliner Brodlieb Family Managed Investment Fund (SMIF)
Launched in 2016, the Berliner Brodlieb Family SMIF delivers a unique learning opportunity for students to manage an investment pool of real money and act as portfolio managers and analysts.

Student Managed Sustainability Fund 
Students use what they’ve learned to make investment decisions that integrate environmental, social, and governmental considerations into their assessment of stock recommendations.

Unispan Records is a student-run record label that operates as an independent music industry entity. Over the course of two semesters, students attend workshops, commercialize music, and are mentored by top music industry professionals. This opportunity allows them to explore the many facets of the music business, including artists and repertoire, marketing and publicity, radio, creative services, new media, and sales and distribution.

Both undergraduate and graduate students have myriad opportunities to make the most of their time at the Zarb School of Business. Out-of-class growth opportunities include:

Dean’s Business Scholars program 
This prestigious program provides high-achieving, first-year Zarb students with opportunities to enrich their education with conversations with business leaders and trips to prominent companies such as Bloomberg, Google, and Goldman Sachs.

Zarb Executive Speaker Series
Corporate leaders from all disciplines are invited to speak with students about advancements in their fields and offer their perspectives on global business. Guest speakers have included executives from JPMorgan Chase & Co., Northwell Health, MLB, and Nasdaq.

One of Zarb’s latest speakers is Thasunda Duckett, CEO of TIAA.

Global Experiences
Students can participate in study abroad programs that span the globe to gain worldly business insights, connect with professionals from different backgrounds and cultures, and obtain unique experiences that will help them stand out.

The world of business has no borders, and Zarb students are given the opportunity to study abroad in countries such as the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom. In terms of programs, students are offered the following:

By serving global communities through Hofstra’s innovative entrepreneurship course, students are provided with real-life international consulting experience.
