Welcome To Shannon Smith Girls Lacrosse Camp 2013
| For Girls Entering Grades 2 - 12 Session 3: July 29 - August 9 |
Camp Objectives
The goal of Shannon Smith Girls Lacrosse Camp is for every player to learn new skills and have fun playing the sport we all love! Instruction includes individual skills, strategies and game play. With a knowledgeable and experienced staff, we strive to educate each player and build on his or her strengths while addressing any weaknesses. The counselors demonstrate techniques and develop campers’ skills in a fun, positive environment, and they encourage players of all abilities to be successful at the next level.
Daily Program
All players are divided by age and experience, and requests to be with friends will be honored. The day is divided into station/drill sessions, individual instruction, team practice, and tournament game play. Campers receive hands-on, individual attention in all areas of the game. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, catching, throwing, stick handling, dodging, draws, goal keeping, transition, groundballs, and defensive and offensive scenarios.
What to Wear/Bring
Each camper should wear daily: cotton T-shirt, athletic shorts, sneakers, sweat socks, cleats. Please bring a lacrosse stick, goggles, and mouthguard. All goalies are responsible for bringing their own equipment. Bathing suit and towel are needed on assigned swim days. Campers must bring their own water bottle. Please label all items clearly with first and last name. Hofstra is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Each camper takes home a Hofstra Lacrosse T-shirt.
Program Director: Shannon Smith
Shannon Smith, a three-time first-team lacrosse All-American who is among the most decorated players in the sport, will return to her native Long Island to become head coach of Hofstra University’s women’s lacrosse team, Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway announced on July 31.
"I am extremely excited that Shannon Smith is joining the Hofstra University family as our head women’s lacrosse coach," commented Hathaway.
"Shannon’s strong ties in the Long Island lacrosse community, combined with her superior leadership ability, extremely competitive nature, and extensive playing experience at the highest level, will be a tremendous asset as we work to develop Hofstra women’s lacrosse into a nationally-recognized elite program. She is very committed to academic success, understands the overall development of student-athletes during their college experience and clearly supports giving back to the community.
