School of Communication Production Facilities

Control Rooms

The School of Communication has state of the art production and post production facilities where students learn current techniques of the communication and media industries.

The production facilities in Dempster Hall have current industry gear that allow for live multicamera video switching and live audio mixing from everything from talk shows to live band performances. The tapeless infrastructure allows the faculty to educate the students on modern efficient production methods. There is a production control room and audio for both Studio A and Studio B as well as a central main studio control with camera control units and Chyron graphics systems.

Some of the production gear includes a Grass Valley Group 4000 3 ME video switcher with a video control unit and an Abacus Devious DVE controller, a Ross Vision 2 ME switcher, virtual monitor walls, Soundcraft SI Compact 32 channel audio mixers, 8 channels of IFB and wireless microphones. There is also a Pesa Routing System that connects the video and audio from every control room and edit station in the building.

Post production facilities include several edit rooms throughout Dempster Hall. Currently there are 42 PC Avid Media Composer stations, 14 Apple Avid Media Composer/Final Cut Pro stations, 8 Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstations and 2 full functioning audio mixing rooms.

Students are encouraged to request time to use the post production stations and control rooms for practice and extracurricular production. The forms are located outside room 112 Dempster Hall.
