Real-world experience—from an internship, a study abroad program, a fellowship or field research with a distinguished professor—is a critical part of your preparation for life after college. National studies show that employers look very favorably on college graduates who have internships as part of their undergraduate experience. Nearly 70 percent of our students have had at least one, and very often more than one, internship. And 93 percent of our 2010-11 graduates are either working, or in graduate school.
Being less than an hour from New York City means our students have access to internships at global giants in every industry – media, finance, theater and publishing, to name only a few. Our students regularly secure internships at major television and radio networks, Wall Street firms, and in Washington, D.C. As part of its co-op program, our new School of Engineering and Applied Science is forging partnerships with local industry that will give every student professional experience before they graduate.
On-campus experiential learning includes our more than 150 pre-professional, social and academic clubs; leadership experiences in both academic and student-driven organizations; state-of-the-art facilities such as the WRHU studio and NewsHub; the Bloomberg trading room in the Frank G. Zarb School of Business; the Hofstra University Museum; and our 6 theaters. Hofstra also recognizes the value of bringing experiential learning opportunities to our campus, most notably by hosting two presidential debates in 2008 and 2012 and the New York state gubernatorial debate in 2010. Lastly, more than 100 dual degree programs (combined bachelor’s/master’s degrees) provide you with a direct and efficient path to professional success.
