Faculty, Research, Education, & Development

Faculty Research, Education, and Development (FRED) Workshops at Hofstra University provide faculty with an array of training on a number of topics including teaching, research, and professional development. The workshops are organized by the office of the Senior Vice Provost to help faculty achieve their teaching, research, and professional goals.

F.R.E.D. Traveling Seminars & Workshops

Our sessions can be customized to suit your area's needs. We can do 1 hour seminars or up to ½ day workshops. Please see our growing list of offerings. If there is a seminar/workshop you would like to have, but do not see it on our list, please let us know. When you are ready, simply send an email to FRED@hofstra.edu and we will help you make all the necessary arrangements. Be sure to include your name, department, and contact information, along with which session you would like to have and what you are hoping to achieve.

Building Leadership Skills
Have you ever thought about becoming a department chair or another higher education administrator? Have you thought about trying to become a leader in your professional organization? This workshop will explore how to build leadership skills that will help you throughout your professional academic career.

Best Practices in Test Development: Multiple Choice Questions that Work!
As educators, we want to make sure we can create multiple choice tests that accurately measure student knowledge. Many times, we get bogged down on deciding what questions to include in a test and how to write them. This session will provide you the foundation for planning a multiple-choice test and provide the keys to writing effect multiple choice questions.

Academic Outcomes Assessment
Hofstra University prides itself on its commitment towards institutional improvement. We ensure this by having our academic programs establish strong goals and objectives that are aligned with Hofstra's missions and goals and measuring their progress along the way. This session will help you learn more about developing and designing goals, measurement tools, and how Hofstra utilizes an online system, Campus Labs Planning, to track and gauge success. This workshop can be customized to meet the particular needs of your department/program.

Overview of Survey Design and Implementation
Surveys can provide timely and accurate information for your department/program that may not be easily accessible from other methods of data collection. This workshop will explore the basics of survey design and implementation, as well as how to write effective survey questions.
