This one-week program introduces students to the field of education through hands-on learning, interdisciplinary activities, and authentic classroom-based experiences. Participants explore how teachers design lessons across subjects such as literacy, math, science, social studies, digital literacy, and the arts. They also learn about all undergraduate education majors offered at Hofstra, including Early Childhood/Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Languages, as well as specialized programs in Dance, Fine Arts, Music, Physical Education, and Health Education. Students will have opportunities to meet program directors and department chairs to gain insight into majors, certification pathways, and careers in teaching. By the end of the program, participants will complete a final showcase project in any subject area of interest, working either independently or in groups. They will design a lesson, present a teaching demonstration, or lead a discussion to demonstrate their understanding of effective teaching practices.
