The Department of Global Studies and Geography offers programs that explore global issues, spatial systems, and human-environment relationships. Through internships, research, and study abroad, students gain practical experience and global awareness that prepare them for dynamic careers in policy, sustainability, technology, and international development.

The Student Experience

Department Honors

A global studies or geography major who meets the current GPA requirements may decide to write an Honors Dissertation during their senior year. The procedure for doing this is outlined on the Honors Thesis Guidelines.

Gamma Theta Upsilon brings together those passionate about geography to deepen professional interest, enrich learning beyond the classroom, and advance the discipline as both a cultural and practical field. It supports high-quality student research, publication, graduate study, and application of geographic knowledge in service to society.

Dr. Masaharu G. Inaba Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded annually to an undergraduate student who is a declared global studies and/or geography major. The student is selected on the basis of demonstrated academic achievement or potential and economic need.

Student Club

Get Global is a student club with the focus of guiding and educating Hofstra global studies majors or minors on global issues and how to market their degrees for future careers. The club is open to all students at Hofstra regardless of their major and holds social and academic events throughout the year.
