At Hofstra, Global Studies gives you the tools to understand how economies, cultures, and political systems are reshaping our world. Today’s most urgent challenges, including climate change, migration, economic inequality, public health, conflict, and sustainability, cross borders and connect communities in powerful ways. This program prepares you to examine these issues from multiple perspectives and understand how global forces shape life locally, regionally, and internationally.
Rooted in an interdisciplinary approach, Global Studies draws from geography, international business, political science, sustainability, economics, health, history, sociology, and cultural studies. You will explore how markets, governments, environments, and cultures interact across regions, gaining the analytical and critical thinking skills needed to navigate a complex global landscape.

Global Studies majors are curious, engaged, and globally minded. You will expand your perspective through study abroad opportunities, internships, and volunteer experiences. Many students pair the major with another discipline to broaden their expertise and strengthen their career opportunities. In particular, we encourage a double major or minor with geography as a strong foundation in geography strengthens this global perspective. By studying place, space, and the relationships between people and their environments, you learn to think across scales of analysis, from local communities to global systems. Understanding how issues unfold at the neighborhood, regional, national, and international levels help you see connections others miss and develop more effective, informed responses to complex challenges.
