About the Department
The Department of Psychology explores the scientific study of mind and behavior. Students examine topics such as cognition, development, neuroscience, and social psychology while gaining research and internship experience. The program prepares graduates to apply psychological knowledge in fields that include counseling, health, education, business, and research.

Faculty
The psychology faculty are active scholars and dedicated educators whose expertise spans cognitive science, behavioral neuroscience, child development, learning, abnormal psychology, and social psychology. Through research-informed teaching and close mentorship, they engage students in understanding behavior, mind, and brain across diverse contexts and populations.

Internships
Psychology internships allow students to apply classroom learning in professional research and clinical, legal, and healthcare settings. With guidance from faculty sponsors and support from Hofstra’s Career Center, students gain hands-on experience that complements academic study and supports career exploration. Recent placements reflect the breadth of opportunities available, from hospitals and courts to research labs and community organizations.
