Literature and the Imagination
The Literature and the Imagination Conference is an annual (Spring) event that provides an opportunity for all who are interested in young people and their literature to assemble to create a culture of talk about books that advocate for meaningful, thoughtful, and enjoyable experiences with children's and young adults' literature. Invited guests and speakers are authors, illustrators, poets, publishers, librarians, academics, and scholar-practitioners. Past guests have included Jacqueline Woodson, Avi, Peter Sis, Naomi Shihab Nye, Pat Mora, Emily Jenkins, Patricia Reilly Giff (Hofstra,'75), and Rita Williams- Garcia (Hofstra,'80), Doreen Rapoport and Brian Collier.

The 2015 Literature and the Imagination Conference
Please join us Saturday, April 25, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., in Hagedorn Hall, rooms 5, 6, & 7, for the Spring 2015 Literature and the Imagination Conference on the Hofstra campus. This year, the conference features authors Gordon Korman and Beth Ain. The conference is free to Literacy Studies students and faculty, but it is also available for graduate credit (LYST 252: Literature and the Imagination Conference, 1 s.h. Gordon Korman’s first book was published by Scholastic when he was just a freshman in high school. After a lifetime of writing, he is the author of over 80 books for children and teens, including Jake, Reinvented (a reworking of the Gatsby story), Ungifted, and One False Note (The 39 Clues, Book 2) among many, many others. Gordon and his family live on the North Shore of Long Island.
Originally from Pennslyvania, Beth Ain moved to New York City after finishing college. In NYC, she met her husband, had her children, and began her writing career. Beth is the mind behind Jules and Big Henry, the true-to-themselves siblings who inhabit the 4 books of her series, Starring Jules. Beth and her family also live on the North Shore of Long Island.
This year, the Literature and the Imagination Conference is being sponsored by the Hofstra University School of Education, the Department of Specialized Programs in Education, The Reading/Writing/Learning Clinic of the Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center at Hofstra University, the Curriculum Materials Center of the Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library at Hofstra University, as well as the Literacy Studies Doctoral Society and The Literacy Club, graduate student organizations at Hofstra University.
