Business Development Center

The mission of the Scott Skodnek Business Development Center (BDC) is to help businesses on Long Island and in the metropolitan area succeed in their business enterprises. The BDC offers resources for business support and education through programs open to members of the community.

The EAC is a 10-week program offered annually in the fall and spring for entrepreneurs looking to start or expand a business. Participants develop a Business Model Canvas, business Executive Summary, pitch presentation and comprehensive financial statements, and have an opportunity to participate in the Capital One Bank-sponsored Business Plan Competition with prizes totaling $5,000 for each fall and spring program. The EAC has been in existence since 1991, and to date 1,417 participants have enrolled in the program, 432 businesses have been started, 1,097 jobs have been created, $39.45 million in revenue and $19.63 million in financing has been secured. Hofstra University's Entrepreneurial Assistance Center provides hands-on technical assistance with the New York State Minority/Women-Owned Business Enterprise Certification application process and priority processing. The M/WBE Certification can assist business owners find new business and procurement opportunities through contracts with New York State Agencies.

New York Forward Loan Fund Program (NYFLF)
The NYFLF is aimed at supporting New York State small businesses with a focus on minority and women owned small businesses, nonprofits and small residential landlords as they reopen after the pandemic.
