Bio

Dr. Andrea Perkins Nerlich is an associate professor and graduate director of the Rehabilitation Counseling Programs at Hofstra University. She teaches courses for students in rehabilitation counseling and mental health counseling related to medical aspects of disability, psychosocial response to disability, assessment, transition services, and career development. She serves as editor of the Vocational Evaluation and Work Adjustment Association (VEWAA) Journal and on the national board of directors for VEWAA and the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Association (RCEA). She has presented numerous times at the national, state, and local level on topics related to rehabilitation counseling and education, published twelve book chapters and journal manuscripts, recently published a book Psychology of Disability (Aspen Professional Services), and is currently contracted to write/edit three texts. Her research interests include transition services for students with disabilities, ecological assessment and vocational evaluation, collaboration models, social justice and advocacy, and student and professional development and identity.
