Bio

Dr. Emily Barkley-Levenson is an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department, specializing in developmental cognitive neuroscience. She teaches undergraduate courses including introductory psychology, behavioral neuroscience, and statistics.

Dr. Barkley-Levenson’s research investigates risky decision-making in adolescents and young adults. She employs behavioral, physiological and neuroimaging techniques to explore how potential gains and losses influence an individual’s decision-making process, and how neurobiological and developmental factors affect sensitivity to risk and reward.

Dr. Barkley-Levenson received a dual B.A. in psychology and music from Pomona College, and completed her Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience at the University of California, Los Angeles. She also served as a postdoctoral researcher in social neuroscience at the University of Southern California before joining the faculty at Hofstra. She is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the Society for Judgment and Decision Making, and the Flux Society for Integrative Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience.
