Bio
Professor Bass received a B.A. in government and international relations from Adelphi University and an M.P.A. from the Graduate School of Public Administration at New York University, where he specialized in urban and metropolitan government administration. His thesis is titled “Governmental Revision for Nassau County, New York.” His J.D. is from the Hofstra University School of Law.
Professor Bass is a former member of the executive advisory board for curriculum development of the Legal Studies Institute at Long Island University. He is a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association, involved in commercial, insurance and labor arbitration, and serves on the Panel of Mediators for the New York State Public Employment Relations Board (NYSPERB) and the Suffolk County Public Employment Relations Board. In addition, he serves as an arbitrator for the New York State Employment Relations Board and is on the Board of Arbitrators for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and other public sector arbitration panels. Professor Bass also serves as a mediator/arbitrator for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
Professor Bass was an instructor for the business law section of the CPA examination.
Professor Bass has authored articles on legal ethics, sex and employment discrimination, reform of health care contracts, sexual harassment and arbitration of discrimination claims. He is currently a principal with Bass & Associates where he is involved in arbitration and mediation services. Professor Bass formerly served as Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Frank G. Zarb School of Business. He is the former Director of the Family Business Forum at Scott Skodnek Business Development Center at Hofstra University and served as Chairperson of the Planning and Budget Committee of the University Senate. From 2011-2015 he served as Chair of the University Senate Executive Committee and currently serves as Speaker of the Faculty. In these positions, he serves as a Delegate to the University’s Board of Trustees.
Professor Bass was the recipient of the Hofstra University Distinguished Teacher of the Year award in 1997, 2007 and 2015 and the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, September 2015.
