Tips

  • Read: over a quarter of American adults don’t read a single book after they leave college. Reading can improve memory, vocabulary growth and increase in the capacity to empathize with others.
  • Explore: Take a back road or go somewhere you’ve never been. Take a trip to the museum or a nature walk. New experiences can boost your intellectual curiosity.
  • Do the Opposite: It can be as simple as taking a different route to work or seeing a movie you normally wouldn’t be interested in. If you tend to jam-pack your schedule with events and activities, try scheduling in some quiet time at home. If you are more of a homebody, try something more adventurous that you normally wouldn’t do. You never know what you might discover if you start making yourself get out of your comfort zone and become less set in your ways.
  • Communicate: Have an open conversation or friendly debate with someone who has an opposing view point on a topic. It is good to get new perspectives and opinions as we often think our view is the only view. It is also important to just ask questions, it is okay to not have all the answers.
