Student Policy Prohibiting Discriminatory Harassment, Relationship Violence, and Sexual Misconduct Updates

All students should review the current Student Policy Prohibiting Discriminatory Harassment, Relationship Violence, and Sexual Misconduct (“Policy”), which has been updated for the 2019-2020 academic year. The full Policy is available at hofstra.edu/sexualmisconduct

The Policy is reviewed and updated each year in general to improve processes, incorporate student feedback, clarify language, make editorial changes, or comply with changes to applicable law. For the 2019-2020 academic year, revisions were made throughout the policy, and some highlights of changes included: (1) Updating the definition of Non-Consensual Sexual Contact; (2) making clear that once a no-contact order is issued and sent to a party it is considered to be in effect regardless of whether the party signs; and (3) combining the section on Alternative Resolutions with the previous section on Conciliation Agreements. Revisions were made in other sections to streamline, clarify, make processes explicit, or make other editorial changes, including the sections on Advisors, Annual Training, Consent Prior to Commencement of Investigation, and Conduct Procedures, including information regarding timing of the conduct process, the informational meeting, and the hearing process.

This webpage is not part of the Policy and is not intended to be a complete statement of all Policy changes. Students should always consult the full Policy for complete information. For questions regarding the above updates, please contact StudentTitleIX[at]hofstra.edu
