In 2000 the Dance Heritage Coalition identified influential dance movements, institutions and individual artists who have shaped American dance. The 100 “treasures” encompass a wide range of styles and ideas. The photographs and video clips convey the broad diversity that is American dance: Native American dance, jazz, tap and ballet. Major contributors such as Alvin Ailey, Fred Astaire, Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, and Jose Limon are also represented.
On October 3, 2009 from 1:00-4:00 a dance performance and reception will be held in conjunction with the exhibition. See the Calendar of Events for more details.
The exhibition is on loan from the Dance Heritage Coalition, Inc., Washington, D.C.
