As we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Hofstra University's incorporation, it is important to note the remarkable changes in the University's history. The 1939 Hofstra College budget had been $150,000; in 2005 it is $259 million. What started out as a commuter campus of approximately 15 acres in 1935 has become a University with residence halls on 240 acres of grounds. Hofstra University has been transformed from humble beginnings in Mr. and Mrs. Hofstra's home, "The Netherlands," to a modern campus with 111 buildings, which is home to over 14,000 students.
