New New Media: Recent Trends in Web Design

September 7- October 31, 2004
Lowenfeld Exhibition Hall, 10th floor, Axinn Library

Guest Curator:
Tom Klinkowstein, Associate Professor
Department of Fine Arts / Art History / Graduate Humanities

The Web is 14 years old and designers have been creating Web sites since the early 1990's.

What's new in new media? Where are we aesthetically, as designers' tendencies toward simplicity and elegance on one hand and decoration and sentimentality on the other, collide with a medium conceived originally as a system to share information about nuclear accelerators?

Sites of the early 21st century can be funky and idiosyncratic, futuristically slick or data landscapes with no-nonsense precision interfaces. New New Media: Recent Trends in Web Design is a snapshot (or, a screen-shot) sampling of contemporary Web design.
