Hofstra Becomes a Tree Campus USA

A Tree Campus USA is designated by the Arbor Day Foundation, a 501c (3) non profit conservation and education organization, to recognize current efforts to plant, nurture and celebrate trees! For the second year in a row, Hofstra meets the five standards. Activities are sponsored on campus across the country with a million members who support programs to make the world greener and healthier. The first Arbor Day celebration will be held at Hofstra on Wednesday April 25, 2018 at 11:30am with the planting of 5 trees on the South Campus in conjunction with the Grounds crew and the Director of Grounds and the Hofstra Arboretum, Fred Soviero. Contact the Facilities and Operations Service Desk at (516) 463-6619 for more information.

Hydration Stations at Hofstra

The first bottle-filling station on the Hofstra campus was installed in November 2009. As of April 2018 there are over 90 stations, keeping our community hydrated and limiting use of plastic bottles.

REV Campus Challenge Achiever

The REV Campus Challenge Program promotes clean energy efforts by recognizing and supporting New York State colleges and universities that implement clean energy projects and principles on campus. Hofstra is designated an Achiever member, among 40% of colleges and Universities in New York State committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions with dedicated staff to focus on clean energy investments.

EPA Green Power Partner

Over the past year, the University has increased our total campus green power purchases to 30%. As a result of using green power, Hofstra is helping to support the development of new renewable generation capacity nationwide while also helping to protect the environment.
