WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO APPLY:

    • 2 cr. = requires a minimum of 120 hours on site
    • 3 cr. = requires a minimum of 180 hours on site
  2. You must first have an internship arranged before you apply to the program. Students planning on interning must attend the department internship workshop prior to their internship. Students can pursue internships on their own or you can access the Pride CMS database through the Hofstra portal to see posted opportunities. ALL SITES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. New sites will be considered, but they must be deemed appropriate by the department before you apply. See Professor Morrow if you have questions.
  3. You cannot use a paying full-time or part-time job for internship credit. You must be in a mentoring and learning environment. Most internships are non-paying. However, some may include stipends for travel and meals; this is acceptable.
  4. You cannot receive credit for an internship that you have already completed.
  5. To register for an internship you will need to meet all the department pre-requisites. You also need to submit a Student Application along with an On-site Internship agreement (this must be filled out and signed by the site). You will also need a resume and a current copy of your DAR. When you have all these materials, please make an office appointment with Professor Morrow to review and submit your materials. It will take approximately one week to process the application.  No applications will be processed during finals week.
  6. Once your application is processed, you will need to stop back to Professor Morrow's office to pick up your registration materials. You will also be told the name of your assigned faculty sponsor. You must meet with him/her to discuss (a) when you will meet, (b) how you will submit your journal reports (hard copy or e-mail), and (c) the details of your midterm and final reports. This meeting MUST take place BEFORE you begin your internship. Your faculty sponsor will then give you the papers you need to register for RTVF170.

***** PLEASE REALIZE YOU ARE NOT DOING AN INTERNSHIP WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF AVF UNTIL YOU HAVE OFFICIALLY REGISTERED AND MET WITH YOUR FACULTY SPONSOR!

    ONCE YOU BEGIN YOUR INTERNSHIP:
  7. You must keep in contact with your faculty sponsor on a regular, pre-arranged basis. This can be through in-person meetings, e-mail, and/or telephone. You faculty sponsor must be kept up-to-date on your activities to ensure that your internship is providing you with a good and appropriate experience. You faculty sponsor also acts as your advisor and advocate, providing you with an outlet for questions you may have or situations you may encounter that you're not quite sure how to handle.
  8. You are required to keep a journal. This can be submitted on paper or by e-mail, based on what you and your faculty sponsor agree to. Each daily entry should include the date, hours you worked that day, what you did, observations you made, what you thought about, and how you connected your classroom activities with your internship experiences.
  9. You must have regular meetings with your on-site supervisor. This person is responsible for guiding your internship and has an obligation to see that you have the opportunity to gain information or skills that will enhance career possibilities. This person must also get to know you so he/she can knowledgeably complete the midterm and final on-site evaluations.
