Eligibility and Application

Eligibility: (grades 7 through 12)

New York state residents from one of the following groups: African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American Indian or Alaskan Native or a New York state residents from other groups who meet the economically disadvantaged criteria as outlined by New York State Education Department

The selection of students will also take into account factors such as motivation, academic grades, interest in mathematics and science, career interest in one of the New York state licensed professions, and potential for success in the program.

STEP enrolls students from the following partner districts and schools, although students from other Long Island districts are also eligible:

How to Apply

A parent or guardian must complete an application for student enrollment and participation. The following information and/or forms must be submitted with the application:

Academic records
Teacher recommendations
Permission and Authorization form
Code of Conduct

Program personnel will also meet with the parent or student to better understand academic needs and career goals relative to class assignments. Meetings are held at the Oak Street Center, Room 107, Mondays-Fridays, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. by appointment.
