Henry Moore is considered to be one of the masters of modern art and having produced some of the most significant sculpture of our time. In 1955, he was commissioned to make a sculpture for the courtyard of a new building in Milan, Italy. The sculpture he created grew ultimately into a series of what he called Upright Motives. He began by balancing different forms one above the other – with results which resemble Northwest American totem poles.
