Hofstra University's counseling and therapeutic mental health programs prepare individuals to work as professional counselors, therapists, and human service practitioners who serve a variety of populations, from youth to geriatric, in a range of settings. Program faculty are committed to preparing multiculturally competent practitioners who are equipped to promote the mental health and personal efficacy of their clients and contribute to the improvement of social and educational systems. Most of these programs prepare students for professional certification or licensure to practice in New York state.
In the Classroom
The Department of Counseling and Mental Health Professions offers multiple graduate-level programs in School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Creative Arts Therapy Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling, as well as an undergraduate minor in Human Services, and classes in Research.

The School of Health Professions and Human Services offers many accelerated and dual-degree program options, which allow you to earn both an undergraduate and graduate degree in 5-6 years.
About the Department
The overall focus of the programs is on promoting the psychosocial health and development of the clients, consumers, and students with whom we work. Each graduate program offers the standard bearing curriculum identified by the accrediting organizations in the respective disciplines, and most lead to certification or licensure in the field.
