Hofstra University’s PhD in Applied Organizational Psychology is the only doctoral program in applied organizational psychology on Long Island preparing  you for a career in academia, business, industry, government, and other private and public domains. Internships provide practical hands-on experience applying scientific methods to solve problems related to individuals and groups at organizations in the New York City metropolitan area. Your dissertation research may be conducted in the lab, the field, or both. On average, this full-time PhD program takes three years to complete.

To be considered for the PhD in Applied Organizational Psychology, you must have successfully completed a master’s degree or equivalent in one of the social sciences or in business at an accredited institution.

Start your application online where you can upload the following documents:

  • Transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities. You may initially submit unofficial copies of your transcripts for your application review, but official transcripts will be required once you are accepted into the program.
  • GRE is recommended but not required.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Personal statement of interests and career intentions.
  • Personal interview with department member.

FACULTY PROFILES

Cong Liu

Dr. Cong Liu, Professor and Director of the PhD in Applied Organizational Psychology program, joined the faculty at Hofstra University in 2007. Her research focuses on workplace mistreatment in the United States and China; abusive workplace supervisors; stressors related to job dedication; and the role of job resources and organizational constraints.
