Pat Montagano, Sr. Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Recreation/Intramural Sports

Pat Montagano

I started my career at Hofstra in 1987 as the Assistant Director of Sports Facilities primarily responsible for the Swim Center operations. Within 15 months I became the Director of Campus Recreation and have served in this position since! I have been fortunate to be in my chosen field doing what I absolutely love at such an amazing institution. When I first started in rec, my office was in the PFC (now known as the PEB) and shared with Athletics and Physical Education. Recreation on campus was extremely limited at that time. A year later, plans to build a recreation building on campus came to life, which I had involvement in creating, and my own personal dream came true!

The Recreation Center (now known as the Fitness Center following a huge renovation in 2011) has been flourishing ever since. It has become a showcase facility on campus that I am beyond proud to show off and manage. The Fitness Center is designed primarily to be a student destination, but I certainly welcome and encourage all members of the campus community to utilize it because everyone deserves to be healthy.

Throughout my life I have always been athletic and still continue my daily workouts because it’s so important to me. The value of being fit is something I love to teach, preach, and help motivate others to live. I want to help all people – our University community, attain a healthy lifestyle because as I’ve always believed, people would be so much happier if they felt good. My job at Hofstra allows me that opportunity to educate others, and for that I will be forever grateful.

I have a Master’s of Education degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in Athletic Administration with a specialization in Facility Management. I’ve lived in Queens all my life, love my family and friends, enjoy having fun and causing just a little trouble from time to time!

Shaun Fean, Associate Director of Campus Recreation Shaun Fean

I joined the Department of Campus Recreation in August of 2011 after spending three years in the University’s Athletics department as an Athletic Facilities Coordinator. Prior to coming to Hofstra, I worked for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, a collegiate athletic conference affiliated in NCAA Division I, serving as their Administrative Fellow for Championships.

As the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, my main responsibility is providing leadership and advisement for all of the universities sport clubs including managing club practice and competition schedules, travel, hiring of coaches, and enforcement of risk management policies and procedures.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Communications from Marist College, as well as my Master’s Degree in Physical Education here at Hofstra. I am a proud native of Milford, Pennsylvania and currently reside in Long Beach, New York. I am a huge fan of college basketball and spend much of my spare time serving as the Girls’ Varsity Basketball coach at W.T. Clarke High School in Westbury, New York.

Patricia Reilly, Senior Executive Secretary – Department of Campus Recreation Patricia M. Reilly

I joined the Department of Campus Recreation in September of 2004 after spending the previous year working in the University’s mail room. Prior to coming to Hofstra, I worked for Macy’s Department Store for six years, and before that I worked in banking for over 20 years.

As the Senior Executive Secretary, my main responsibility is providing budgetary guidance for all of the universities sport clubs in regards to purchases, travel, and reimbursements. I enjoy working with Hofstra students every day and helping them see their clubs flourish. In addition, I assist all of the senior staff with the day to day operations of the Fitness Center.

I live in Bay Shore with my husband of 28 years, Brian. We have three sons; Sean, 26, Danny, 22, and James, 19- all of whom have or are attending Hofstra. We are avid New York Rangers fans and enjoy watching every game-either at Madison Square Garden or in the comfort of our living room! I also enjoy attending as many Hofstra Athletics events as I can!
