How to Obtain an Internship

English majors whose concentration is Publishing Studies may register for ENGL 192B, Publishing Internship. This opportunity is open to advanced students who have completed the basic sequence of Publishing courses, including ENGL 172 and 173 (Book Editing I and II), ENGL 174 (Book Promotion), and ENGL 179A (Desktop Publishing). Internships are available at many of the area’s top publishing houses and publications, including Simon and Schuster, Penguin, Scholastic, Doubleday, Bantam, Norton, and Conde Nast.

English majors whose concentration is English and American Literature or Creative Writing may secure internships through the Office of Off-Campus Education (OCE). OCE provides guidance and leads on how to obtain an internship that fulfills HCLAS degree requirements. With the help of the OCE coordinator and the English Department chair, students who have secured an internship designate a faculty sponsor, who will direct a research paper related to some aspect of the student’s work.

For more information on OCE please call Rene M. Giminiani-Caputo at (516) 463-5823 or via e-mail.
