Changing your Hofstra e-mail password in preparation for Office 365

For Hofstra employees

To access Office 365, you must have changed your e-mail password at some point between February 20, 2012 and April 19, 2012. If you do not change your e-mail password during this period, you will be unable to log in to your e-mail account once it transitions to Office 365 during the weekend of April 20, 2012.

Your e-mail password is different from your network password, which you use to log in to services like the My.Hofstra.edu Portal and Banner. Once you've changed your e-mail password, we strongly recommend you visit hofstra.edu/password to change your network password to match.

Your new e-mail password must adhere to the University's strong password requirements:

  • Must contain at least 8 characters.
  • Must start with a letter
  • Must contain a special character, (e.g. ! % + _ . - *)
  • Must contain a number (can contain more than one number)
  • Can't end with a number

You have a choice of two methods to change your password:

  1. Using the Microsoft Online Services Sign In client on your PC or Mac
  2. Using the My Company Portal via a Web browser

Method 1: Using the Microsoft Online Services Sign In client on your PC or Mac

Open the Microsoft Online Services Sign In client.

Windows users:

  • Click the Start Menu, then Programs or All Programs
  • Select the Microsoft Online Services folder, then click Sign In

Mac users:

  • Open the Applications folder on Macintosh HD
  • Double-click on Microsoft Online Services Sign-In

Enter your user name (your full Hofstra.edu e-mail address) and e-mail password.

Click Sign In.

Open the Change Password screen.

Windows users:

  • In the Microsoft Online Services Sign In client, click the options tab
  • Click the Change Password link

Mac users:

  • In the Microsoft Online Services Sign In client, select the Connect menu
  • Click the Change Password option

Follow the prompts to change your e-mail password.

Don't forget: If you access your e-mail using a mobile device, you'll need to update it with your new e-mail password! Most devices will automatically prompt you for the new password, but some may not.

Method 2: Using the My Company Portal via a Web browser

Open a web browser and go to http://home.microsoftonline.com.

Under the Option 2 heading, click Go directly to My Company Portal.

Signing in

Enter your user name (your full Hofstra.edu e-mail address) and e-mail password.

Click Sign In.

In the upper right-hand corner of the screen, under your name, click the Change Password link.

Follow the prompts to change your e-mail password.
