Hofstra Online Information System
The Hofstra Online Information System provides web-based access to the Banner Administrative System. It provides:
- Full undergraduate and graduate transcripts
- The student's current schedule of classes.
- Online registration with accompanying course database that lists the current enrollment numbers and whether the class is full.
- The student's current billing information.
- The student's financial aid information, if any.
- The ability to change your mailing address.
Faculty use the system to advise students and post final grades via the web. Students may access an online version of DARS (Degree Audit) and pay their bill via credit card.
These services are supplied in accordance with the FERPA privacy requirements. Access to the system is through a secure SSL connection and requires a User ID and PIN. If a student forgets his/her PIN, it can be reset at the Student Administrative Complex on the second floor of Memorial Hall.
HOFSTRA BLACKBOARD is an online course management system. It is a powerful tool that enables instructors to post announcements, documents, quizzes, and other materials in password protected class web sites which students can access. They may also conduct online discusssions and surveys using the tool. Many faculty use this system in their courses as an adjunct to in-class sessions.
This is the site of the web-based E-mail system for all Hofstra students. The system is accessed with the same Hofstra Network Account and password that is used to login to the campus network. In addition to the web interface to the mail system, students may choose any IMAP 4 or POP3 client to access the mail service. The addresses for these services are imap.pride.hofstra.edu and pop3.pride.hofstra.edu respectively. Students have a 10 MB quota on the account and are notified by E-mail when the account is nearing capacity.
This server hosts the web interface to the faculty, staff and administrative E-mail system, Microsoft Office 365. Hofstra Employees use this service when they do not have access to their E-mail service through a remote Microsoft Outlook client.
The Hofstra Personal Web Page server hosts faculty personal web pages. Many faculty maintain extensive web sites in support of their courses and their research.
Lexical is Hofstra's online library catalog. This web site is a web interface to this system making it easy to use from anywhere in the world with a web browser. This database contains the holdings of all the libraries on campus including the Law Library.
Most online information database providers require Hofstra to ensure that people accessing their service are an employee or current student of the University. The Remote Database Access Server provides this validation service allowing the Hofstra community to access these important Library data sources remotely as well as from on campus.
