A Medication Request Form must be filled out by your child's physician, and must either be sent into the camp office ahead of time or accompany the medication being dropped off.

Medication must be in the original container, including the label with your campers name, dosage, and the prescriber's name.

Crime Lab to Command Center: A Career Exploration Program 2026
Early Tuition: $735 per Week

For Campers Entering Grades 9 - 12

Week 3: July 13 - July 17



Step into the world of crime-solving, human behavior, and emergency response in this dynamic 5-day summer program designed for curious, motivated students. Through hands-on activities, expert-led workshops, and real-world case explorations, participants will uncover how multiple disciplines work together to understand crime, support communities, and respond to crises.

Over the course of the week, students will explore core fields that shape modern investigative and public-safety practices:

Program Components and Professional Instructors


Criminology and Sociology
Instructor: Professor Robert Costello, Criminology and Sociology
  • Discover why crimes occur and how society responds
  • Explore what influences criminal behavior
  • Analyze patterns, theories, and real case studies

Chemistry and Forensic Science
Instructor: Dr. Deborah Silva, Professor of Chemistry
  • Get an up-close look at evidence collection and crime scene analysis
  • Learn fingerprinting techniques
  • Explore the science behind solving mysteries

Forensic Linguistics
Instructor: Dr. Robert Leonard, Professor of Forensic Linguistics
  • Discover how language reveals clues in investigations
  • Learn techniques for author identification
  • Explore threat assessment and analysis of written and spoken evidence

Forensic Anthropology
Instructor: Dr. Kristin Hartnett-McCann, Professor of Anthropology
  • Experience elements from the undergraduate course "Bones, Bodies and Burials"
  • Learn how professionals examine human remains and cultural contexts
  • Understand the role of forensic anthropology in identifying victims and interpreting findings

Public Safety and Career Paths
Instructor: Geri Hart, Associate Vice President of Public Safety (Former FBI Agent and Commissioner of Suffolk County Police Department)
  • Explore various career possibilities in public safety and criminal justice
  • Hear firsthand experiences from FBI work and police leadership
  • Participate in workshops on the opioid crisis, social media safety, and current issues in law enforcement

Emergency Management
Instructors: Jovanni Ortiz, Director of Community Engagement, Public Safety Department, and Ari Arvon, Public Safety Officer
  • Explore the intricacies of emergency management
  • Learn how agencies plan for, respond to, and recover from disasters
  • Participate in simulations that build decision-making and teamwork skills

Crisis Intervention and Mental Health
Instructors: Donna Wallenbrock and Genevieve Weber, Hofstra Wellness Center
  • Understand the medical and psychological complexities behind crisis intervention
  • Learn about trauma-informed practices
  • Discover how mental health professionals support victims, communities, and responders


What Students Will Gain
By the end of the program, students will have gained valuable insight into careers across criminal justice, public safety, psychology, and the forensic sciences—while developing critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills. Perfect for future investigators, psychologists, first responders, or anyone fascinated by how science and society intersect.

There is an additional fee for transportation for one-week precollegiate camps.
