Opportunities for Undergraduate Students

SPCH 160 - Field Experience in Communication Disorders

Semester Hours: 1

Fall, Spring

This course serves as a field experience in communication disorders provided under the guidance of an instructor and a speech-language pathologist or audiologist who will serve as the mentor in the field.  Students will be exposed to the roles and responsibilities of speech-language pathologists and audiologists in either a health-care or educational setting.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Students may accrue observation hours, but may not use experiences for clinical clock hours.  Students are required to complete 28 hours of field work and meet at least four times with the instructor.  To be eligible to participate, students are required to have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a departmental GPA of 3.3, and must have completed SPCH 5A, 6 , 9 , 10 , 102A , 131 and 137. Grades will be based on both academic and on-site work. An on-site evaluation of “poor” results in a maximum grade of C.  This course may not be used toward meeting a major or minor requirement.  May not be taken on a Pass/D+/D/Fail basis. No liberal arts credit.  This course is repeatable for up to a total of 2 credits
