Student Organizations

Computer Science Society

The Computer Science Society (CSS) organizes several events including video gaming and Hack-a-thon competitions, field trips to companies or conferences, and networking events. CSS occasionally works with other clubs, including eSports, the Robotics Club, Motorsport Engineering Club (MEC), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

eSports

eSports is a club for serious, but sportsmanlike, competitive video game play at the collegiate level.

Hofstra DSC

Hofstra DSC (Developer Students Club) is a Google-sponsored organization focused on helping students learn technologies and skills wanted by software development companies. Hofstra is one of 400 DSCs across North America, with a connection not only between Hofstra DSC and Google, but also with other DSCs across America. Hofstra DSC holds workshops run by students for students. Every year between January and March, Google holds the Solution Challenge, focused on helping students use these learned technologies in a three-month project to be reviewed by Google. Winners have a chance to win prizes and even meet with a team of engineers to help improve the project.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon

Hofstra's local chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE), an international honor society affiliated with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the IEEE Computer Society exists to recognize the academic excellence of outstanding undergraduate and graduate students in computer science.

Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS)

The WiCyS chapter at Hofstra provides opportunities for everyone to learn and get hands-on experience with cybersecurity. Their goal is to foster a welcoming and encouraging environment for all students at Hofstra, especially females!
