Bio Professor Patrick O’Brien received his Bachelors of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Accounting (Summa Cum Laude), as well as his Masters in Science (M.S.) in Accounting (with Distinction) from Hofstra University. While at Hofstra, Professor O’Brien served on the executive board of the Delta Pi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi and contributed research to an academic article concerning mandatory auditor rotation, which was subsequently published in the journal Advances in Public Interest Accounting. Professor O’Brien is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Business Administration (D.B.A.) in Accounting at The University of Scranton.
Upon graduation from Hofstra University, Professor O’Brien worked at Deloitte & Touché in New York City in the audit practice. He served primarily public and private clients in the media and entertainment industries. Professor O’Brien also worked in the private sector as a Financial Analyst within the Corporate Controller’s Group at Sotheby’s.
Professor O’Brien is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of New York and is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Professor O’Brien recently published an article in the journal Research in Ethical Issues in Organizations. The article, a movie review, discusses the moral and ethical implications of the 2008 financial crisis as portrayed in 2015 film, The Big Short. Professor O’Brien also currently serves as the faculty advisor to Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting department honor’s society, as well as the Accounting Society.
