Management and Entrepreneurship

Management and Entrepreneurship

Whether you see yourself as part of a large, multi-national organization or founding a tiny start-up, your skills at managing people and functions will be critical to your success. And there’s no better place to develop and hone those skills than the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship at the Zarb School of Business.

You will get a broad-based education in the theory and practice of human resources, organizational behavior, operations, leadership, sustainability and supply chains, and learn how to explore, recognize and develop profitable new ventures.

Take advantage of our internationally recognized Center for Entrepreneurship, which offers mentoring, workshops, networking, a high-tech makerspace and other programs designed to train and support student entrepreneurs, including the annual $75,000 Hofstra-Digital Remedy Challenge competition.

Hofstra’s proximity to New York City means students have their pick of high-powered internships in the public, non-profit and corporate sectors, and that hands-on experience helps them stand out in the job market. On average, our students complete more than two internships during their studies.

On campus, our active student clubs and organizations are another great way to get practical experience and serve the community. Hofstra’s chapter of 180 Degrees Consulting, for example, gives students to provide consulting services to local non-profits. Meanwhile, the Capital One Campus Entrepreneurship Challenge provides mentors for Hofstra students to develop new ventures and they, in turn, pay forward that help by serving as mentors to aspiring entrepreneurs at a local high school.

Experience our Business Without Borders programs, which offers courses that take students to Asia, Europe, Israel, Latin America and Africa to provide consulting services to emerging businesses. In addition, Hofstra offers a unique dual-degree program with Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in China, which includes an international summer internship.

Great Wall of China

Elli Reid, a junior management major from Texas, spent six weeks living and working in China last summer. Even though she didn’t know the language. Even though she’d never traveled outside the U.S before. Oh - and then there was the bungee-jumping, even though she’s afraid of heights.
