Entrepreneurship - Experience

Experience in Entrepreneurship

The Center for Entrepreneurship and other programs on campus offer students with experiential learning opportunities to gain entrepreneurial skills and put them into practice.

The Center for Entrepreneurship has an Entrepreneur-in-Residence program and holds business plan and pitch competitions including the Hofstra-Digital Remedy Venture Challenge and the Hofstra-Digital Remedy Lion’s Dens.  All of our events are held at the ideaHUb, a collaborative incubator space for students and startup companies.  The Center for Entrepreneurship also runs Hofstra’s student-run record label, which offers students real-life experience recording, producing, promoting and distributing music.

Additional programs at Hofstra that assist students with gaining entrepreneurial experience include:

Prototyping Facilities

The Center for Entrepreneurship connects students to prototyping facilities on campus that are equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, advanced computers, programming devices, a drone, and virtual reality headsets. These include the center’s own Maker Space at the ideaHUb, Calkins Lab at Student Computing Services, and the Big Data lab in the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering, which has 21 individual servers and a total of 3 terabytes of RAM.

Student Computing Services and Learning Support

Student Computing, located in Calkins 106, trains students on software applications and offers lessons to students on 3D modeling and printing, virtual reality, Excel, Python, and online security. They also hold the annual “Maker Park” event and hackathons.

The Hofstra University Startups Club (HUSU)

HUSU is a student organization open to all students interested in growing their own startup from the beginning. HUSU runs pitch competitions, workshops, conferences, networking, and works to develop the startup culture at Hofstra.
