IdeaHUb

The Center for Entrepreneurship's home is the 4,811 square foot ideaHUb incubator in the New Business School Building, which serves as a collaborative workspace for students, mentors, and startup companies.  The new ideaHUb opened in January 2019 and moved from its location in the Axinn Library.

The ideaHUb is open to all students who are interested in entrepreneurship, working on their business, or want to start a new company.  The ideaHUb also has a co-working space for companies. Amenities include a lounge, kitchenette, and two conference rooms.  The state-of-the-art space has modern, cutting-edge finishings including glass garage doors that open for events, polished concrete floors, and exposed ceilings.  

The ideaHUb also houses a high-tech Maker Space with 3D printers including Form Labs, Ultimakers, a Stratysys Mojo, 3D Scanners, a Full Spectrum Laser Cutter, an HTC Vive, a Phantom 3 Drone, a Squink, a milling machine, Arduinos, and Raspberry Pis. There is also a vinyl cutter, laminator, photo booth for marketing photos/videos, and a fashion area.

ideaHUb Internship Program

The Center For Entrepreneurship has launched a for-credit internship program to offer students in the Frank G. Zarb School of Business
 the opportunity to work directly with the ideaHUb incubator tenants. Students will report to C-Level executives in a startup company and contribute to their business growth while developing entrepreneurial skills such as problem solving, critical thinking about business models, working to meet deadlines and company milestones, and verbal and written communication skills.  The end-of-semester project will be tailored to the major of the intern. The type of work includes social media marketing, project management and planning, product strategy, content creation, market research, data and analytics reporting, website and app development, research on areas related to business development, marketing automation, and business plan development. The Center also has relationships with businesses through various programming and can connect students with those early stage local businesses. The requirements of the internship will include:

  • Working directly with an ideaHUb company 8 – 10 hours per week during the semester at the ideaHUb (which will vary depending on the student schedule and number of credits).
  • Attending events organized by the Center for Entrepreneurship in the ideaHUb focused on entrepreneurial skill building with various speakers and topics.
  • Meeting with the Center for Entrepreneurship team to monitor progress.
  • Meeting/corresponding with a faculty advisor. Please note that not all internships will qualify for credits in the student’s major; some of them may be for general elective credits and cannot be used to fulfill major credit requirements. The chair of each department will make the determination.
  • Working on a specific project due at the end of the internship related to their responsibilities with the company and major (such as a market research report, business plan and pitch presentation, completed website or social media graphic portfolio, social media strategy plan, product development roadmap, design and UX/UI portfolio, venture capital strategy).

Students must comply with all requirements of their academic department to receive school credit, including prerequisites, project deliverables, etc.  Read more information about internships in the Frank G.
