Leading With Purpose from Hofstra to Military Service

For Isabella Vanzetta, Hofstra was more than a university – it was a community that believed in her. “I wasn’t just a number here. My faculty genuinely cared,” she said.

Isabella’s experience at Hofstra was as wide-ranging as it was impactful. She interned with the Alzheimer’s Association and conducted public health research through Dr. Karaye’s undergraduate research program. Her exploration on firearm mortality rates cemented her passion for making a difference.

A cadet in the Army ROTC program, Isabella credits instructor Justin Siler for guiding her every step of the way. That mentorship led to a life-changing internship in Vicenza, Italy, where she shadowed a military intelligence officer.

After graduation, Isabella will commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and begin her career in military intelligence, stationed in Hawaii.

Some of her fondest memories come from Hofstra’s annual Relay for Life events. “We were having fun with friends but also doing good – it was the best combination,” Isabella recalled.

As she looks ahead to her future, Isabella says she’ll miss the little moments the most – late-night study sessions and shared meals with friends. But she leaves ready to lead, serve, and make a lasting impact.
