- Display the best practices, values, and ethics of the profession.
Graduate students should demonstrate personal and professional growth and self-awareness, a strengthened sense of self and appreciation of the unique worth and contribution. This is necessary to effectively carry out the work of an art therapist.
The Creative Arts Therapy Counseling program uses a theory-based, application-oriented approach that prepares master’s level students to become highly competent, culturally sensitive practitioners. Committed to the belief that art-making is healing and life-enhancing, education components integrate counseling strategies and creative expression to foster personal and professional development through diverse clinical experiences, rigorous supervision, quality research, a commitment to self-awareness, reflective practice, and inter-professional collaboration. Our program prepares graduates to work effectively in hospitals, agencies, rehabilitation centers, adult facilities, day treatment centers, mental health centers, schools with individuals who have experienced mental and physical illness, trauma, addictions, and changes in living, as well as those who seek personal development.
