The Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) - ranked in the top 13% nationwide of non-PhD granting engineering schools by US News World Report - is home to Hofstra's computer science and engineering departments. The DeMatteis School is distinguished by offering you hands-on research experience in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, valuable pre-professional, on-the-job experience, and collaborative relationships with professors who are leaders in their fields.
The DeMatteis School offers undergraduate and graduate programs as well as experiential learning opportunities in a variety of areas through our Engineering and Computer Science departments.

About the School
The DeMatteis School currently serves approximately 785 students pursuing bachelor's degrees and 60 pursuing master’s degrees. The rapid and sustained growth we have experienced over the past seven years is the result of a great demand for graduates who have the skills and knowledge required to work in the technical sector and to contribute immediately to a company's mission in the marketplace.

The Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science was recognized for its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), earning bronze-level distinction this year for the second time.

Computer Science Students Visit West Coast Tech Giants
A group of students from the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science spent a week in northern California visiting top-tier tech companies and networking with industry professionals as part of the Hofstra in Silicon Valley program.
Dr. Edward Segal’s colorful collaborative project
The engineering department worked with local high schoolers to build a kaleidoscopic bench on campus.The project: Building the Next Engineers, was organized by the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science and Scale Rule, an international collaboration that promotes diversity, design and engineering through experiential learning and community engagement in projects.
Engineering and Computer Science Students Get Industry Experience
The DeMatteis Co-op program continues to thrive since its inception in 2015. Today with more than 200 corporate partners, students are often offered full-time jobs after graduation and on-going part-time work if the company is local.
Master of Science in Data Science
The Master of Science in Data Science is a collaboration between the departments of computer science and mathematics, and launched in the fall of 2021. The degree prepares students for advanced careers in data engineering, quantitative research, machine learning, and data analytics.
