Students Dive Deep into Summer Research
How did you spend your summer vacation? Twenty-one students from the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science will answer “in the lab” ̶ exactly where they wanted to be. Celebrating its seventh year, the Advanced Summer Program in Research (ASPiRe) allows select engineering and computer science students to work full-time with faculty advisors for 10 weeks on in-depth research projects, beginning in late May.
Sisterhood in STEM
Fifteen first-year engineering and computer science students at Hofstra University are spending part of their summer exploring their fields and learning more about career opportunities as part of a program designed to help women succeed in STEM.
Hofstra Joins AI Training Program for Women in STEM
While everyone is talking about artificial intelligence, Hofstra is doing something about it. The University has joined with Break Through Tech to provide advanced and practical training for women and nonbinary students in this fast-emerging field.
DeMatteis School Receives National Grant for Operating System Development
Jianchen Shan, Hofstra assistant professor of computer science, received a National Science Foundation grant to develop a high-performance cloud operating system (OS) that can adapt to the dynamic cloud environment.
The DeMatteis School Honored for Diversity
The Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science was recognized for its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), earning bronze-level distinction this year for the second time.
Master of Science in Data Science
The Master of Science in Data Science is a collaboration between the departments of computer science and mathematics, and launched in the fall of 2021. The degree prepares students for advanced careers in data engineering, quantitative research, machine learning, and data analytics.
