Education at the Hofstra University Museum of Art
The Hofstra University Museum of Art is committed to making the study of works of art and artifacts a part of each student’s educational experience. School tours and programs are related to exhibitions and the Museum's permanent collections and are designed to help students and teachers connect works of art to both their school curriculum and their life experiences. Each year the Hofstra University Museum of Art serves the public and private schools of the Long Island region with engaging and meaningful explorations of authentic objects and art. Planning Your Class Visit to the Museum
Guided tours and hands-on art-making activities facilitate inquiry-based discussion of the artwork and aim to foster the development of observation, analytic, communication, and critical thinking skills. Students learn to look carefully at works of art and articulate their ideas about them. Programs address New York State Learning Standards in the Visual Arts as well as in ELA and social studies.
