Eligibility: (grades 7 through 12)

New York state residents who meet the economically disadvantaged criteria as outlined by the New York State Education Department.

The selection of students will also consider factors such as motivation, academic grades, interest in mathematics and science, career interest in one of the New York state-licensed professions, and potential for success in the program.

STEP enrolls students from the following partner districts and schools, although students from other Long Island districts are also eligible:

How to Apply

A parent or guardian must complete an application for student enrollment and participation. The following information and forms must be submitted with the application:

  • Last Year’s Report Card
  • One Teacher’s Recommendation
  • Eligibility documentation (depending on the eligibility of the student – follow the eligibility guidelines)
  • Permission and Authorization form
  • Code of Conduct

Once a complete application is received, a staff member will schedule an appointment with the parent. During this meeting, they will review documentation or discuss the next steps after receiving the official application status. The office is located at the Oak Street Center, Room 107, and is open for appointments Monday through Friday, depending on staff availability.
