Peer Mentorship with Intercultural Engagement & Inclusion

Peer Mentorship Opportunity

Hofstra's Peer Alliance Program connects students through mentorship and co-curricular learning. We currently offer six different mentor tracks: Global (International), PRISM (LGBTQ+), Commuter, Transfer, Access and Diversity Peer Mentors. Diversity Peer Mentors and PRISM mentors are supervised by the Office of Intercultural Engagement & Inclusion, and descriptions about both programs are found below. Both programs are currently accepting applications for mentees who would like to be paired up with a mentor for the 2018 – 2019 academic school year now through Thursday, March 1st at noon. More information about the other Peer Mentorship tracks.

Diversity Peer Mentor
Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion (IEI) houses this Peer Alliance track. Diversity Peer Mentor (DPM) program focuses on providing a positive and intentional social and academic transition to Hofstra through connectivity and regular connections. The DPM program support and foster a comprehensive and empowering University environment by recognizing the need for proactive involvement in dialogue, to build a unified campus community that celebrates and welcomes diversity. The DPM program is designed to produce a group of student leaders who embody the PRIDE Principles, support & stand in solidarity with those who are feeling marginalized or underrepresented, as they transition into Hofstra.

Prism Mentors
Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion houses this Peer Alliance Track. The Hofstra University Prism Peer Mentorship program is designed to connect and pair Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, A/sexual/romantic and cisgender/straight identified allied (LGBTQIA+) first year students with upper class mentors from across campus. Focusing on providing a positive and intentional social and academic transition to Hofstra through connectivity and regular connections with fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community across campus. After training on the tenets of PRISM (Positivity, Respect, Intentionality, Student-Focus, and Mentorship), mentors will be ready to provide the incoming students who opt into the program a worthwhile experience and transition into life at Hofstra University. Please keep in mind that this is at least a one semester commitment of mentors to meet regularly with their first year mentees and take them to an array of programs to help them transition into the Hofstra life.
