Christine Farina is in her 12th year as Head Coach for the 2014-15 season. Christine is honored to be coaching at her alma mater. She graduated with a B.B.A. in Finance from Hofstra in 1999. A four-year member of the Cheer team, Christine was captain of the coed squad. During those four years the team honored Christine with many awards, including Most Dedicated and Most Valuable. The Hofstra Pride Club also presented Christine with the Outstanding Senior Athlete Award in 1999.
Christine was also a Head Cheerleading Instructor for the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) for 5 years. At the 1999 Tri-State Cheer and Dance Open, Christine and her partner took 1st place in the College Partner Stunt Competition. She received NCA's Top Veteran Award and judged NCA's 2000 World Championship in Germany.
During her career at Hofstra she has led the team to making Hofstra History. She has led The Pride to 7 College National titles in her 11 years coaching. The 2009 team achieved an amazing victory because 11 of the 16 members were comprised of freshman and 1st time competitors! Her Cheer team has been highlighted in American Cheerleader Magazine in 2007 and in 2008 for the College Spotlight. At camps her team has won the Most Collegiate Award, Leadership Award, and many 1st place trophies in the Cheer and Chant competition. In 2011 the Hofstra Cheer team was invited to represent the U.S. in the European Open Championship in Paris, France. The team took home the gold and won 1st place in the All girl partner stunt division. In Jan. 2012 the Hofstra Cheer team competed in the 1st Annual World Championship division and they won receiving the highest score from all the divisions. In Jan. 2013 not only did the Hofstra Small Coed team won its fifth consecutive National title but four of the members won the All Girl Partner Stunt National and World titles.
Christine is the President of CAN Cheer Inc. and currently is hosting Summer Camps at Hofstra University staffed by talented and qualified Hofstra Cheerleaders. She is, also, the author of "The Guide to Cheerleading". The book is currently on sale at Barnes & Nobles. Coach Farina was the Associate Producer for "The Cheering Life" on MSG Varsity and the Hofstra Cheer team has been featured running summer camps. Christine is AACCA-certified and also has a certification in Safety, First Aid and CPR. Christine is fully committed to maintaining a strong family atmosphere, and will continually strive to keep this program one of the best in the nation!
This is Matt Jones' 7th year as Assistant Coach for the 2014-2015 season. Like Christine, Matt is also coaching at his alma mater, as he graduated in May 2008 with a B.B.A. in Finance. As a four-year member of the Hofstra University Cheer Team, Matt competed all 4 years and was a vital member of the 2006 and 2007 Back to Back National Championships squad. Over the Course of his four years at Hofstra he earned awards such as; Rookie of the Year and Most Improved in 2005, Best all Around 2006 and 2007, Best Spotter Award 2006-2008, Game Day and the Leadership Award in 2008. After winning Nationals in 2006 Matt was selected as one of American Cheerleader Magazine's All Americans.
For the past four years Matt has also been a member of the NBA Fan Patrol team and has performed at The Dallas Stadium, The Staples Center, and in Houston for the NBA All Star Weekend. In 2012 Matt performed at the Pre-olympic basketball tournament in Manchester England for Team USA, while also traveling to Turkey, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Phillipines, Taiwan, France, and China to perform at numerous NBA pre-season basketball games.
Aside from coaching at Hofstra Matt is an outside sales representative for the GTM Sportswear, specializing in cheer and dance apparel for the New York area. During his time at Hofstra Matt also has coached gymnastics, and was a competitive team coach for Gold Medal Gymnastics. Matt holds a United States Gymnastics Association coaching number. He is AACCA-certified, and also certified in Safety, First AID, AED, and CPR. Matt is extremely excited to continue being a part of the Hofstra Cheer family.
