Beth McGuire

Beth McGuireBeth joined the Division of Student Affairs in March of 2015 and is thrilled to be part of the Residence Life team. A graduate of Stony Brook University for both her bachelors and masters she has been in the field of Student Affairs for over 20 years working in areas such as Residence Life, Housing, Judicial Affairs, Social Justice and First Year Connections. Beth is committed to creating an engaging and transformative residential experience and is thankful to work at a university that is supportive of that mission. Outside work, Beth is a potter and abstract painter who also enjoys traveling with her husband Arthur. One of her favorite quotes is… “Travel is the only money spent that makes you richer.”

Novia Ramsay

Novia RamsayNovia is a proud Hofstra alumna who arrived at the University as an international student from the island of Jamaica. She began her career in academia, working in the Division of Student Affairs.

As the Director of Operations with responsibility for occupancy management and facilities, Novia has oversight for on-campus housing assignment, as well as, enhancing the student experience as part of the housing selection processes. She also oversees special projects to upgrade resident facilities (room and lounge areas). When not immersed in day-to-day activities, Novia can be found interacting with students through one of the Hofstra work groups or simply having conversations with students as she walks the residence halls. These interactions help Hofstra to create and promote an atmosphere conducive to learning and a rich campus experience.

Novia and her husband are parents to three young boys and she enjoys traveling along with a passion for track and field. A huge sports fan in general, Novia is avid supporter of Arsenal, the Yankees, Jets and Knicks.

Russ Smith

Russ SmithA native of Kansas, Russ is very excited to be a member of the Pride! A graduate of Webster University in St. Louis with a Bachelors degree in Film, Russ spent his college years working as an RA and being involved with various student leadership activities. This led him to earn a Masters degree in Higher Education Administration at New York University. Currently, he is pursuing an Ed.D. In Higher Education Policy, & Leadership here at Hofstra. Before joining the Res Life team, Russ worked as a Residence Hall Director at Southern Connecticut State University, as an Area Director at the University of Redlands, and was a graduate Residence Hall Director at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. In his position, Russ co-supervises the Resident Director staff, and indirectly mentors the National Residence Halls Honorary. In his time off work, Russ loves cooking, traveling, and seeing as much film as possible.

Chermele Christy

Chermele ChristyA native of Connecticut, Chermele is ready and excited to show off her HU Pride!! A graduate of Saint Peter’s University in New Jersey with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Chermele spent her college years working as an RA and being involved with various student leadership activities. This led her to pursue a master’s degree in Special Education at Wagner College in Staten Island, New York. Before joining the team at Hofstra, Chermele has worked as an Assistant Director at Notre Dame College, a Residence Hall Director at Southern Connecticut State University, as an Area Coordinator at Steven’s Institute of Technology, and was a graduate Residence Hall Director at Wagner College in Staten Island, New York. In her current position, Chermele co-supervises the Resident Director staff, and indirectly mentors the Resident Student Association. In her time off work, Chermele loves spending quality time with her son.

Benjamin Berg

Benjamin BergBenjamin is originally from Delaware and is excited to be a member of the Office of Residential Life team at Hofstra.  Benjamin earned a bachelor’s in chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College, a master’s in teaching from University of Delaware, and a master’s in higher education from Penn State.  He taught high school chemistry for two years, and then worked in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Ally Student Resource Center at Penn State while completing his master’s program.  Benjamin is the resident director of the Netherlands Complex where he works with the assistant resident director, Brittany, to lead a fantastic team of students that help build an engaging and inclusive residential community.  Benjamin’s hobbies outside of work include video gaming, hiking, and traveling.

Amber Hurt

Amber HurtAmber is from Rockland County, NY and happy to be back after working in Miami, Florida for a year and a half. Amber received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from SUNY Old Westbury and a Master's degree in Higher Education and Leadership Policy Studies from Hofstra University. While at Old Westbury Amber was a Resident Assistant, Orientation Leader, SGA Senator and much more. During her time at Hofstra she was the Assistant Resident Director for Colonial Square. Before coming back to Hofstra, Amber was a Residence Life Coordinator at Florida International University where she worked with upperclassmen and first year students. In her free time Amber likes to travel, read, and go to the gym.

Kathleen Lieblich

Kathleen LieblichKathleen joins the Hofstra team with a great deal of Residence Life and Student Activities experience. Originally from Northern New Jersey, Kathleen completed her undergraduate degree at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, which is where she first found her passion for working with students as a Resident Assistant. Kathleen pursued her Master’s degree in Applied Psychology with a focus in Community Psychology at Sacred Heart, where she was a Residence Hall Director for 2 years.  During her graduate work, Kathleen served as an advisor to Habitat for Humanity, Best Buddies, and Residence Hall Association. At Hofstra, Kathleen oversees Honors College housing, and works closely with the faculty mentors to program in the residence halls for a rich and educational experience for the students. Outside of work, Kathleen enjoys going on mission trips, traveling, attending concerts and watching ice hockey.

Monica L. Schauss

Monica L. SchaussA native of Long Island, Monica is thrilled to be a part of the Residence Life team full time! Previously Monica worked at Hofstra as the Graduate Resident Director for two years, overseeing a graduate hall consisting of 224 graduate, law and medical students. Monica graduate from Hofstra University with her M.S.Ed program for Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies in May of 2015. Prior to coming to Hofstra, she attended Keene State College in New Hampshire where she received a bachelor’s Degree in biology and a minor in communication. Outside of work Monica enjoy spending time with family and friends, making DIY crafts, swimming, as well as cheering for the New York Giants!

Sarah Vetri

Sarah VetriSarah joined the Hofstra family in 2015 and served as the Resident Director for Colonial Square for 4 years. Although Sarah has thoroughly enjoyed the incredible Colonial Square community over the last few years, she is excited to make her way over to Constitution and VanderPoel to continue her work with upperclassmen students and Hofstra's Honors College!

Sarah is a native of Upstate, NY. Sarah is a proud graduate of SUNY Cortland where she received her Bachelor's Degree in English and Sociology. Sarah later received her Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration from Stony Brook University. Outside work, Sarah enjoys reading and spending time with her daughter.

Teresa Whitfield

Teresa WhitfieldPrior to joining the Division of Student Affairs at Hofstra, Teresa worked in the restaurant industry gaining a meaningful skill set in management and learning a love for working with college-aged students.

As the Resident Director for Enterprise & Estabrook Halls, Teresa has the pleasure of working and interacting with residents often.  Teresa meets with students regarding resident concerns, roommate conflicts, and overall quality of student life.  She is able to provide direction to different departments within student affairs for students who are in need.  She encourages you to come stop by and say hello anytime!

Teresa received her undergraduate degree here at Hofstra as well as a Master’s Degree in Counseling with a concentration in College Student Development. 

In her free moments of life, Teresa enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends. 

Samuel Baah

Samuel BaahFormally a resident of Brooklyn NY, Samuel is excited to be a part of the Residence Life team at Hofstra. A graduate of SUNY College at Old Westbury with a Bachelors in Public Health, Samuel has a passion to help others and see them succeed in every aspect of their college career. As an undergraduate student, Samuel responded to the late-night request of his first-year students and it was during his time as a Resident Assistant where he developed a passion of the field of Student Affairs.  Samuel is currently the Resident Director for the Netherlands Complex, where he works with incoming students as well as Living Learning Communities (LLC) and the Faculty in Residence program. Samuel is excited to create a healthy and safe community for his residents with the assistance of his Resident Assistants. Outside of work, Samuel loves to go to the gym and cook for his family.

Kate Giovannoli

Kate GiovannoliAs the Graduate Resident Director, Kate supervises a staff of four Graduate Resident Assistants, and she is tasked with overseeing the Graduate Residence Hall’s general management. In addition to these tasks, Kate advises the Programming Board of Advisors – a student-run programming initiative in Graduate Residence Hall that works in tandem with the Resident Student Association. The most rewarding part of her job, though, is being able to work with students and enhance their residential experience on a daily basis.

Kate hails from a small New Jersey town, but loves the pace of Long Island life! A graduate of Hofstra University, Kate received her bachelors in English, with a concentration in Creative Writing. Kate is continuing her studies at Hofstra, pursuing a master’s degree in American and English Literature. Working for her alma mater is a joy unrivaled. Kate has worked with the Office of Residence Life since her sophomore year, and she has loved working in Student Affairs ever since! In her spare time, Kate enjoys reading fiction and watching too much Netflix, as well as hiking and skiing in upstate New York.

Brittany Romain

Brittany RomainAs Assistant Resident Director of The Netherlands, Brittany supervises a Resident Assistant staff of 22 with Resident Director, Benjamin Berg. She received her undergraduate degree in Accounting and is now pursuing her MBA in Finance here at Hofstra.  She worked in the Office of Residence Life as a Resident Assistant in Enterprise hall, where her interest in working with students peaked.  Brittany also worked in the Office of Student Leadership and Activities for four years as a student aide and Orientation Leader/Head Orientation Leader.  As a student, she has had the opportunity to intern with Brix and Partners and Morgan Stanley.  When she is not in her studies, she enjoys spending quality time with her sister and friends.  While Brittany is originally from Syracuse, NY she loves exploring what the NYC and Long Island area have to offer.

Patricia Brennan

Patricia BrennanPatricia started her career at Hofstra University in 2001, serving as a temp for the Office of Public Safety. She then worked in the bookstore for a short period of time prior to being recruited by the Office of Residential Programs as a temp in the receptionist position. She was hired shortly thereafter as the permanent receptionist.

In January 2007, Patricia replaced the Senior Accounts Clerk who retired. Her responsibilities include but are not limited to creating applications for new and returning students; she enjoys working closer with students and parents.

Joan Enea

Joan EneaJoan began working at Hofstra in 2008 and has been with Residence Life since 2010. As the Senior Assistant in Residence Life, Joan assists members of the Res Life central office as well as students, families and colleagues. She enjoys interacting with students and their families via phone, e-mail and in person related to on-campus housing, dining plans and any questions they may have. Joan works closely with our residence hall senior resident assistants, facilities crew and office student aides.

Prior to her employment at Hofstra, Joan was an administrative assistant for the U.S. Postal Service’s New York Division (16 years) and a legal secretary for a corporate/real estate attorney (8 years).

Joan resides with her husband, son Matthew and daughter Kristen and Rigly, their Maltipoo. In her free time, she enjoys reading, taking long beach walks, visiting the east end of Long Island, especially Montauk, and camping and canoeing in upstate New York.

Mary Prine Laurino

Mary Prine LaurinoProudly born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Mary began working for Ehrlich-Bober & Co. Inc., Municipal Underwriters upon Graduation from High School. Mary also started NASD School September, 1973 and remained at Ehrlich & Bober working as an Assistant Vice President /Assistant to Trader until "retirement" in 1985.

She served as member of New York State mandated Site Based Team for Shared Decision Making for Milburn Elementary School, Baldwin, NY, from 1991 through 1996. Mary has served Hofstra University since 1999 in the following areas:

Chrissyann McGlynn

Chrissyann McGlynnChrissyann arrived at Hofstra in Fall 2014 and wholeheartedly felt the positive energy, the high level of professionalism and collaborative spirit shown by the entire Residential Life staff.  Prior to joining Residence Life, She worked for Long Island University as the Assistant Director of Internal Audit and then in the human resources office, specializing in compliance related issues. She also worked as a staff accountant for Grassi and Company, CPAs, one of the largest Public Accounting firms on Long Island. Chrissyann has always enjoyed student interaction and looks forward to shifting gears from the business end of higher education to engaging in promoting student growth, learning and success.

Chrissyann is a proud alumna of LIU Post and earned her bachelor's degree in Public Accounting. Currently, she is embarking on pursuing an M.S.Ed. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies at Hofstra.

Chrissyann and her husband John lives on the south shore of Long Island and is blessed to have three beautiful daughters. Their "second job" is taxiing the girls all over the tri-state area for dance classes and competitions.

Darren Davy

Darren DavyA native of New York, Darren attended Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. During his tenure at FDU, Darren was a Resident Assistant, a lead percussionist in the band and gospel choir, and was also a member of the Men's Varsity Basketball team. Darren found his passion for student affairs after an extensive conversation with a faculty member at FDU. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies. As the Graduate Resident Director, Darren oversees a staff of four Resident Assistants (RA's) and is responsible for all administrative, educational, and supervisory tasks for the Graduate Resident Hall (GRH). In his spare time, Darren likes to record, edit, and produce videos for fun.

Ireisha Vaughn

Ireisha VaughnIreisha was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She attended Seton Hall University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology. While working as a resident assistant at Seton Hall, Ireisha found her calling, student affairs. Before joining the Hofstra team, Ireisha worked at the Fashion Institute of Technology as the Special Projects Building Manager in their residence life department. Ireisha is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies at Hofstra. As the Graduate Resident Director, Ireisha supervises a staff of four Resident Assistants and she is tasked with overseeing the Graduate Residence Hall’s general management. Ireisha is excited to foster a fun and interactive atmosphere in GRH. In her spare time, Ireisha loves spending time with her friends and family and attending conferences all over the U.S.

Alice Snook

Alice was born and raised in West Chester, Pennsylvania before attending the University of Pittsburgh to obtain her Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Italian Studies. Alice is very excited to continue working with first-year students as the Graduate Resident Director of Stuyvesant Hall, while also studying for her Masters in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies. She was inspired to pursue a career in Student Affairs after having a hugely positive experience working for Residence Life and various other departments of Student Life during her undergraduate career. Alice is passionate about cultivating positive, supportive, and inclusive communities for residents to learn and grow! In her free time, Alice enjoys running, finding dogs to pet, and going to brunch.

Brittany Rhoden

Brittany RhodenRaised in Montego Bay Jamaica, Brittany came to Hofstra University and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. She then went on to complete her M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.

Brittany spent some time working in hospitals but decided to make the shift to Student Affairs. Her career started as an Area Coordinator at Hampshire College in Massachusetts, she then moved to Miami, Florida and has come back home to the Hofstra Pride!

Brittany’s passion is helping students realize and actualize their goals and loves assisting with the residential experience of our students. While at Hofstra, Brittany was the VP of the Black Student Union and attended many functions and sporting events; she believes getting involved is the best way to enjoy your college experience. In her spare time, Brittany loves to cook, spend time with her family and read self-help and inspirational books.

Jahleal Savage

Jahleal SavageJahleal was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the University of Bridgeport located in Bridgeport, Connecticut where he obtained both his Bachelor of Psychology, as well as his Master of Counseling degrees, the latter with a concentration in College Student Personnel. Jahleal is excited to join the Hofstra team and is looking to make great student connections. He developed a love for student affairs while serving as an RA at the University of Bridgeport, where he later joined the profession staff as a Resident Director and Residential Life Coordinator. In his free time, he loves spending time with his family and friends, playing video games and binge watching shows on Netflix or Hulu.
