Introduction to Carpentry
Campers will learn the basics of the carpentry, tiling, plumbing, and electrical trades, including how to use basic tools in each of these areas. Campers will work together to build, deliver and install needed structures for the DD Ranch, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping farm animals. Students will also complete personal projects to take home that showcase their new talents and incorporate skills they have learned. This is the perfect camp for students who want to work with their hands and test out the trades while providing a service to the community.
Construction Trades Academy: Woodworking Projects
Campers will learn skills necessary for residential carpentry; including rough and fine work. These skills will allow students to perform basic home repairs to either save money or make money. Interior carpentry work combines hand/eye coordination, reading comprehension, and math skills to solve a real-world issue. Students will use the skills they have learned to construct a folding portable table and an Adirondack chair.
Schedule:This is a full day program in the Construction Trades Academy. This program will take place at Nassau BOCES Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Education Center.
