Venture Challenge Application Questions and Answers
- I don’t have a business, just an idea. Can I apply?
- Yes, all you need is an idea!
- How do I participate in the Accelerator program?
- If you are accepted to the Hofstra-Digital Remedy Venture Challenge you are also accepted to the Center for Entrepreneurship Accelerator program. There is one application.
- Is there a limit on the number of students in my team?
- Five students is ideal, but we will make exceptions. Please list the team members in your application. Please see the rules.
- Do I need to build a prototype?
- No, all you need is a business idea.
- What type of mentorship will I receive?
- You will receive mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs, investors, CEOs of companies, and faculty through brainstorming sessions, workshops, and pitch preparation sessions.
- Can I apply if I already started a business?
- Yes, if it meets the eligibility requirements found in the rules
- Can non-Hofstra students participate in my team?
- Yes, as long as the majority of the team is formed of Hofstra students and the team leader is a Hofstra student.
- Is there a required major for eligibility?
- No, there is no required major for eligibility. You must be a Hofstra student during this academic year. There will be an undergraduate and graduate competition.
- If there are two people on the team, can one be a Hofstra student and one not be a Hofstra student?
- Yes, as long as the Hofstra student serves as Team Leader. All team members must be identified in the application.
- I am a graduate student and I do not have the flexibility in my schedule to attend all of the Accelerator program requirements in-person. Can I still apply?
- Yes, you are encouraged to apply. We have a very flexible approach and we will work with you to accommodate your schedule, which may involve participating in aspects of the program remotely.
- We have identified a faculty advisor in our Hofstra Digital Remedy Venture Challenge application. How do we move forward?
- Once you are accepted to the program we will confirm with the faculty advisor and discuss the meeting schedule moving forward.
- Can we participate in the Center for Entrepreneurship’s Accelerator program if we do not get accepted to Digital Remedy?
- The Center for Entrepreneurship will be holding workshops on topics related to entrepreneurship and the will be open to any Hofstra student. The schedule will be posted on the Center for Entrepreneurship’s website www.hofstra.edu/entrepreneurship.
- What other kinds of aid will the Center for Entrepreneurship provide student entrepreneurs?
- The Center for Entrepreneurship is an independent Center on campus that is a resource for all members of the Hofstra community interested in learning more about entrepreneurship and will provide mentorship, networking, workshops, and a physical space to Hofstra’s students, faculty, and alumni.
