Hofstra Faculty Mentor-of-the-Year Award

Hofstra Faculty and students are invited to nominate a full-time faculty member for Hofstra's 2026 Mentor of the Year award at Hofstra University. This award recognizes two outstanding faculty members who have made significant contributions to the academic and creative development of students. One award will honor a faculty member who has mentored student research, while the other will recognize a faculty member who has supervised student creative activity, offering both professional and intellectual guidance. These mentors play a crucial role in helping students develop their ideas, pursue their passions, and navigate their scholarly and creative journeys.

Nominations should highlight the key qualities of the faculty member's mentorship, providing background information and, where possible, anecdotes that illustrate how the mentor made a meaningful impact on the success of an individual student or a group of students. The focus should be on demonstrating how the faculty mentor’s support contributed to the growth of students’ academic or creative endeavors at an advanced level. Nominations are invited from faculty and current or former students.

A Successful Nominee Has...

  • Provided guidance from idea to project development on research or a creative activity.
  • Demonstrated mentorship above and beyond general expeher students in professioctations.
  • Demonstrated a track record for involving mentees and otnal development.
  • Made a significant/ life-changing impact on mentees and other students in the Hofstra University community.

Eligibility Only full-time faculty members are eligible for this award. Once faculty has been recognized, they cannot be awarded the Mentor of the Year Award for the following five (5) years.

Recognition Each recipient will be recognized at the May Honors Convocation and receive an award of $1,000.

Deadline for nominations is March 1.
